Bengkulu, October 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The Agroecotechnology Study Program<\/em>, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu<\/strong>, successfully carried out a Community Service Program<\/strong> titled \u201cCommunity Empowerment in Harapan Village through Household Waste Management Based on 9R Principles to Produce Liquid Organic Fertilizer in Support of Low-Carbon Development Policies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n

The program was conducted in Harapan Village, Central Bengkulu Regency<\/strong>, led by Ela Hasri Windari, S.Si., M.Sc.<\/strong> The implementing team consisted of three lecturers \u2014 Prof. Dr. Ir. Masdar, M.Sc<\/strong>, Dr. Helfi Eka Saputra, S.P., M.Si<\/strong>, and Anita Hazimah Putri, S.P., M.Si<\/strong> \u2014 along with three students from the Agroecotechnology Department: Nofri Hari Fitriyandi<\/strong>, Tomi Saputra<\/strong>, and Nadiah Afifah<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Promoting Sustainable Waste Management and Green Agriculture<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This community service aimed to raise awareness and skills among local residents<\/strong> in managing household waste to generate both economic and environmental value<\/strong>. Using the 9R principles<\/strong> \u2014 Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replace, Replant, Refill, Repair,<\/em> and Redesign<\/em> \u2014 the program encouraged the community to adopt more sustainable waste management practices aligned with low-carbon development goals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Program Implementation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The activities were carried out in three main stages<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    Socialization and education<\/strong>, introducing the 9R concept, its relevance to composting, and methods for producing and applying liquid organic fertilizer (LOF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Hands-on demonstration<\/strong> of LOF production using household organic waste such as vegetable and fruit residues.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Practical application<\/strong> of the fertilizer on plants to showcase its benefits and proper usage techniques.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

    Active Community Participation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The residents of Harapan Village showed great enthusiasm throughout the activities. They participated actively in discussions and hands-on sessions to learn how to produce liquid organic fertilizer.<\/p>\n

    Project leader Ela Hasri Windari<\/strong> expressed hope that this initiative would serve as an initial step in building public awareness of sustainable waste management:<\/p>\n

    \u201cThrough this program, we hope the community can transform household waste into valuable products while contributing to carbon emission reduction at the village level,\u201d said Ela Hasri Windari, S.Si., M.Sc.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    Commitment to Sustainable Agriculture and Green Environment<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Through this program, the Agroecotechnology Study Program, University of Bengkulu<\/strong>, reaffirms its commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education<\/strong>, especially in community service, by promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation<\/strong> across Bengkulu Province.<\/p>\n\n\n
