Collaborative works with University of Oxford Botanical Garden and Arboretum

One of our collaborator is Dr Chris Thorogood. He is the Deputy Director and Head of Science, at the University of Oxford Botanic Garden. His research focuses on the evolution of parasitic and carnivorous plants, and plant diversity in floristic hotspots including the Mediterranean Basin, Macaronesia, Southeast Asia, and Japan.

The collaboration began when Dr Chris Thorogood, with Prof Pastor L Malabrigo and Mr Adriane Tobias from University of The Philippines, initiated field observation of Rafflesia in Bengkulu at the end of 2022. During this field research, he was also invited to be an international guest lecturer at the Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu. Collaborators from the University of Bengkulu include Prof Dr Agus Susatya and Dr Yansen. This field research resulted in a comprehensive report (https://bit.ly/Rafflesia-conservation-report) and an agreement for formalizing an MoU between the University of Bengkulu and the University of Oxford Botanic Garden. In May 2023, the MoU between the two institutions was signed (https://bit.ly/MoU-UNIB-UOxford). In early 2024, another joint project for the field observation of Rafflesia in Bengkulu was conducted and another international guest lecturer was delivered (https://bit.ly/Cooperationactivity-Oxford).
