Lecturers from the Forestry Department (Forestry and Environmental Science Study Program) at the University of Bengkulu Develop Community-Based Ecotourism in Tanjung Dalam Village

North Bengkulu, October 18, 2025 — Lecturers from the Forestry Department, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, conducted a Community Service activity entitled “Development of Local Community-Based Trekking and Birdwatching Ecotourism as an Effort for Biodiversity Conservation and Economic Improvement in Tanjung Dalam Village, Ulok Kupai District, North Bengkulu.”
This activity was held at the OMAH IJO Self-Help Agriculture and Rural Training Center (P4S), Tanjung Dalam Village, Ulok Kupai District, North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province.

This community service program aims to develop conservation-based ecotourism potential and empower local communities, particularly through nature trekking and birdwatching activities. Through these activities, the team of lecturers strives to encourage the community to manage natural resources sustainably while creating new, environmentally friendly economic opportunities.
The head of the community service team, Dr. Dr. Erniwati, S.Hut., M.Sc., stated that this activity represents a concrete step taken by the University of Bengkulu in supporting village development based on local potential.”We want the community to become more than just spectators, but also key actors in ecotourism development. The biodiversity potential in Tanjung Dalam Village is extraordinary. With the right conservation approach and training, the community can gain economic benefits while preserving nature,” said Dr. Erniwati, S.Hut., M.Sc. During this activity, the community service team implemented several programs, including: Training in bird identfication and birdwatching techniques, mapping and design of nature tourism tracking routes, Developmen of conservation-based eduational tourism guides, and socialization of the importance of preserving forest resources and wildlife.

The Tanjung Dalam Village community welcomed this activity with enthusiasm. The Head of the P4S OMAH IJO expressed his appreciation to the University of Bengkulu for its support and contribution to developing the village’s potential.
“We are grateful to the team of lecturers from the Forestry Department of the University of Bengkulu who have helped broaden our understanding of the importance of wisely managing natural resources. We hope that Tanjung Dalam Village can become a model ecotourism village in North Bengkulu in the future,” he said. Through this activity, it is hoped that Tanjung Dalam Village can grow into a leading ecotourism destination that not only provides economic benefits to the community but also plays a vital role in preserving the biodiversity of the North Bengkulu region.
