
Welcoming New Forestry Department Students (Forestry and Environmental Science Study Program)
Bengkulu, August 8, 2024 – Today is a historic moment for new students of the Forestry Department, Faculty of Agriculture (FP), University of Bengkulu (UNIB). At the GB 1 Building, UNIB, a welcoming event for new students was held, attended by 82 students from the Forestry Study Program and 36 from the Environmental Science Study Program. This event was an initial introduction for new students and an event to build enthusiasm and enthusiasm in starting their academic journey at UNIB.
The event started at 08.00 WIB with an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and enthusiasm. The presence of lecturers from the Forestry Department added to the solemn atmosphere. They provided direction and motivation to new students, emphasizing the importance of dedication and commitment in pursuing education in the major they chose.
In his remarks, the Head of the Forestry Study Program and the Head of the Environmental Science Study Program of the UNIB Faculty of Agriculture said that the acceptance of new students is not just a formality but is an initial step to produce a competent next generation who are ready to contribute to national development, especially in the fields of forestry and the environment. “You are the hope of the nation to maintain and manage sustainable natural resources. This task is indeed not easy, but with the spirit you have shown today, I am sure you are all able to face the challenge,” said the Head of the Department.
This event was also enlivened by the presence of outstanding students from the Forestry Department who shared their experiences and inspiration. Among them were the Vice President of the UNIB Student Executive Board (BEM), the management of the Sylva Student Association HIMA Sylva PCSI UNIB, Outstanding Students of the UNIB Faculty of Agriculture, PPK Ormawa, PKM, PMM students. They provided views on how to live an academic life that is not only focused on studies but also active in student organizations and social activities.
In his remarks, the Vice President of BEM UNIB invited new students to participate actively in various activities held on campus. He says organizational experience is an important part of student life that can hone soft skills and build a wide network. “I used to sit in the same position as you are now, full of hope and confused. However, all the challenges you face later are part of the process that will shape you into a tough person and ready to face the world of college,” he said.
The HIMA Sylva PCSI UNIB administrators also conveyed the importance of association involvement in strengthening solidarity and broadening horizons. They say HIMA Sylva is a forum for Forestry students to discuss, learn, and develop themselves outside class hours. “You will not walk alone; we at HIMA Sylva will always be ready to accompany and assist you in every step you take,” said one of the administrators.
In addition, the FP UNIB Outstanding Students provided tips on managing time between academics and extracurricular activities. According to him, the key to success is discipline and prioritizing tasks. He also reminded new students not to hesitate to seek help from lecturers or seniors if they face difficulties in their studies.
The event was closed with a question-and-answer session, which the new students enthusiastically followed. They asked various questions about campus life, research opportunities, and how to face challenges in the academic world. The warm and together atmosphere was very much felt, indicating that this event created a strong initial bond between new students, lecturers, and their seniors.
PPK Ormawa, PKM, and PMM students also provided motivation and invited new students to continue to achieve the advancement of the forestry department.
The event continued with a campus tour guided by PMM students and Student Creativity Program (PKM) representatives. The new students were invited to tour the campus, learn about the existing facilities, and see the laboratories and study rooms that they will use while studying at the Forestry Department, FP UNIB. This campus tour allowed them to understand the campus environment better while interacting with new friends.
This welcoming atmosphere of enthusiasm reflected the great hopes of the entire academic community of the Forestry Department, FP UNIB, for their new students. Not only are they expected to be able to achieve academically, but they are also expected to contribute to various campus and community activities actively.
With the start of this academic journey, new students of the Forestry Department of FP UNIB are expected to bring positive enthusiasm and values that will lead them to become highly competitive graduates, have integrity, and are ready to face challenges in the world of forestry and the environment.
