UNIB Agricultural Industrial Technology Lecturer Holds Dish Soap Making Training for Residents of Bengkulu Prison
Lecturers of the Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu carried out Community Service activities at the State Prison (Rutan) Class IIB Bengkulu on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The activity with the theme “Making Dish Soap as an Effort to Improve the Skills and Independence of the Inmates” was attended by around 30 inmates.
The service team consisted of Ulfah Anis, S.T.P., M.Sc., Wica Elvina, S.T.P., M.Si., and Drs. Syafnil, M.Si. who provide training as well as assistance to the participants. This activity aims to equip the inmates with practical skills that have economic value, so that they can be a provision for independence after they return to the community.
In this activity, participants received material on the basics of making household cleaning products, especially dish soap. The material presented included the introduction of raw materials, product formulation, mixing techniques, to a good and interesting packaging process. In addition to the presentation of theory, the activity is also equipped with hands-on practical sessions, so that participants can understand each stage of the process in more depth.
During the training, the inmates showed high enthusiasm. They actively ask questions and are directly involved in the process of making dish soap starting from weighing ingredients, mixing, to product packaging. This practical approach is expected to increase participants’ understanding and provide real experience in producing products that are worth using.

Apart from being a skills training activity, this program is also part of the contribution of universities in supporting the development program of inmates in correctional institutions. Through skills-based training and simple entrepreneurship like this, it is hoped that the participants will have alternative business opportunities that can be developed after completing the coaching period.
The lecturer team hopes that this activity will not only provide new knowledge, but also foster the spirit of independence and confidence for the inmates. With their skills, they are expected to be able to take advantage of small-scale business opportunities that can help improve economic welfare independently in the future.
This community service activity is also a tangible manifestation of the commitment of the University of Bengkulu in carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in making a direct contribution to the community through empowerment activities and applicable knowledge transfer.
