Application of Smart Aquaponics on a Home Scale: Catfish and Vegetable Collaboration for Family Food Independence in Beringin Raya Village, Bengkulu City
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, a community service activity was held with the topic of house-scale smart aquaponics: catfish and vegetable collaboration for family food independence in Beringin Raya Village, Bengkulu City. This activity was carried out by lecturers from the University of Bengkulu, namely Fitri Yuwita S., S.T.P., M.P., Sri Wulandari, S.T.P., M.Sc., Wica Elvina, S.TP., M.Sc., Elsa Lolita Putri, S.P., M.P, Reza Ainur Rahma, Ilham Musthofa and attended by the women of the Joint Sustenance Farmers Women’s Group in Beringin Raya Village.
This community service activity aims to increase food security and family economic empowerment through the implementation of aquaponics systems based on catfish and vegetable cultivation. The target of this activity is to solve the main problems faced by the people of Beringin Raya Village, especially in the Rezeki Bersama Farmer Women Group (KWT), namely limited land, low knowledge about the integrated agricultural system, and the lack of optimal use of local resources.
This activity was attended by the chairperson of the farmer women group and 19 members, the activities that have been carried out are socialization and counseling about the concept and benefits of aquaponics, simple aquaponics installations, and aquaponic makers of catfish cultivation and kale vegetable plants. The service team also continues to supervise and evaluate and communicate both directly and online (Whatshapp) so that mistakes do not occur and the community is able to produce vegetable and catfish products optimally.
