Dr. Fitri Electrika Dewi Surawan, S.T.P., M.Sc. Emphasizes the Importance of Health Insurance for Food Products During Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr

Lecturer of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, Dr. Fitri Electrika Dewi Surawan, S.T.P., M.Sc., was a resource person in the Bengkulu Bicara dialogue program broadcast by TVRI Bengkulu with the theme “Health Insurance of Food Products During Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.” The program was broadcast live on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 15.00 WIB, and discussed the importance of maintaining food security for the community during the month of Ramadan until the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

In the dialogue, Dr. Fitri Electrika Dewi Surawan, S.T.P., M.Sc. Surawan explained that in the month of Ramadan until before Eid al-Fitr there was an increase in the consumption of various types of food, such as takjil, ready-to-eat food, to various Eid cakes. This increase in food demand has the potential to pose a risk of food products that do not meet safety standards if not properly supervised.

She also reminded the public to be aware of the possibility of using harmful substances in food products, such as formalin, borax, and textile dyes that are not intended for food. In addition, consumers also need to ensure that the products purchased have a clear distribution permit, good packaging, and are still within the expiration period so that they are safe for consumption.

According to Dr. Fitri, food safety is a shared responsibility between the government, business actors, and the community. The government through related agencies continues to supervise food products circulating in the market, while business actors are expected to maintain product quality by paying attention to cleanliness, hygienic processing processes, and the use of safe materials.
