Strengthening Student Competence in Product Design Based on Function, Aesthetics, and Production Efficiency, Aris Wibisono Gives a Product Design Lecture in the Visual Era

The Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, carried out Teaching Practitioner activities in the Production Planning and Control course on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 14.00 WIB, located in the 20 GB 1 Training Room of the University of Bengkulu.

This activity presented Aris Wibisono, S.T.P., a professional in the field of design and visual communication, who is also the Photographer & Editor of Projek Kita, Graphic Designer Bengkulu, and Account Executive of PT. Ruangguru Indonesian Gallery (2023–2024). The speakers presented the topic “Product Design in the Visual Era: Synergy of Function, Aesthetics, and Production Efficiency”, which invited students to comprehensively understand the concept of product design.

In the session, Aris Wibisono emphasized that design is not just a visual appearance, but includes functions, structure, user experience, and production efficiency. He explained the difference between product design and service design, where product design focuses on physical aspects such as function, shape, and aesthetics, while service design focuses on efficiency and user experience satisfaction.

The materials presented include:

  1. Design and Production relationship, including raw materials, production processes, facility layouts, costs, and production capacity.
  2. Product Development stages, starting from ideation, initial selection, economic analysis, initial design, prototype test, to final product design and production process.
  3. Product Life Cycle, from the stage of introduction, growth, maturity, to decline, along with innovation and efficiency strategies at each stage.
  4. Product Packaging Design, which not only protects and facilitates distribution, but also enhances brand image, attracts consumers, and supports sustainability.

In addition, the speakers provided practical tips on packaging design, including maintaining simplicity but informative, creative and unique, using environmentally friendly materials, paying attention to typography and color, and ensuring that labels are easy to read.

In the visual era like today, Aris emphasizes the importance of synergy between function, aesthetics, and production efficiency to create products that are competitive and have emotional appeal for consumers.

This activity provides practical insights for students regarding the application of effective product design, from concept to implementation, so as to be able to increase creativity, innovation, and product competitiveness in the food and agriculture industry.
