Transforming Alang-Alang Rhizomes into Health Drinks: Innovative Training in Pekik Nyaring Village

Community Service: Training on Processing Alang-Alang Rhizomes into Health Drinks in Pekik Nyaring Village, Central Bengkulu Regency

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, a community service activity was held in the form of training on processing alang-alang rhizomes into health drinks at the Community Learning Activity Center (BKBM) in Pekik Nyaring Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu Regency. This event was organized by the Faculty of Agriculture at Bengkulu University, in collaboration with the Village Government of Pekik Nyaring.

The main goal of this activity was to empower the community to process local natural resources into beneficial and economically valuable products. During the event, participants received education and socialization about the potential of alang-alang rhizomes that can be used as health drinks. Additionally, participants were given books containing recipes for health drinks made from alang-alang rhizomes. The highlight of the event was a hands-on practice session where participants made health drinks from alang-alang rhizomes.

The event was attended by the Head of Social Welfare Section, Sudarsih, and was participated by approximately 30 members of the Women’s Empowerment and Family Welfare (PKK) team from Pekik Nyaring Village. The participants showed high enthusiasm during the training as they learned that alang-alang rhizomes can be utilized for health drinks.

This activity successfully increased the participants’ knowledge about the business potential of making health drinks from alang-alang rhizomes. It is hoped that with this training, the residents of Pekik Nyaring Village can develop this product into an additional source of income, thereby improving their welfare.

Community service activities like this are essential in helping village communities to explore local potential and enhance their skills in processing the natural resources available around them.
