Doctoral Program in Agricultural Science Holds Research Progress Seminar II on the Potential of Local Microorganisms to Support Forage Production

The Doctoral Program in Agricultural Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, continues to foster academic excellence through the regular implementation of Research Progress Seminars. On Monday, August 11, 2025, the program held the Doctoral Research Progress Seminar II at the Graduate Seminar Room, Faculty of Agriculture, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

The seminar featured a presentation by a doctoral student of the program, as part of the academic requirements for the completion of the Ph.D. study. The event was attended by a panel consisting of the supervisory committee and two external examiners: Prof. Ir. Fahrurrozi, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Prof. Ir. Zainal Muktamar, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Ir. Supanjani, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Catur Herison, M.Sc.; and Prof. Ir. Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D. Their participation demonstrated the program’s strong commitment to ensuring the scientific quality and rigor of each doctoral research project.

The doctoral student presented a dissertation research entitled “Development of Liquid Organic Fertilizer from Moringa Leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) and Seaweed for the Organic Production of Sweet Potato on Coastal Lands.” The study explores sustainable fertilizer alternatives to enhance the productivity of sweet potatoes cultivated in coastal areas—regions often characterized by challenging soil and salinity conditions. This research emphasizes the potential of natural resources such as Moringa and seaweed in supporting environmentally friendly agriculture while improving soil fertility and crop yield.

During the seminar, the panel provided constructive feedback and valuable recommendations to refine the research framework and strengthen its scientific contribution. The discussion was interactive and insightful, focusing on the formulation process of organic fertilizers, the integration of local natural materials, and the applicability of research outcomes to coastal farming systems. Through such academic activities, the Faculty of Agriculture reaffirms its dedication to advancing agricultural innovation and supporting sustainable food production in Indonesia. The program hopes that this research will inspire further studies in the use of locally available natural materials to promote eco-friendly and resilient agricultural practices.
