The Doctoral in Agricultural Sciences (DAS) of the Faculty of Agriculture, The University of Bengkulu was founded in response to the lack of doctoral program in the field of agricultural sciences, particularly in western Indonesia. DAS has an emphasis on the agricultural development for coastal areas in the tropics by taking into account the characteristics of the Bengkulu Province, which is on the west coast of the island of Sumatera.
Since the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education’s Decree No. 268/KPT/I/2019 about Permits for the Opening of Doctoral Program in Agricultural Science was published, the DAS has been put into operation. DAS’s objective is scientific development in resolving agricultural issues in tropical coastal areas, with the scientific vision of “Producing internationally reputed doctors and innovations in the development of tropical agriculture in sustainable coastal areas by 2030″..” Profiles of graduates of the doctoral program are prepared based on the market demands as Decision Makers, Experts (Consultants), Lecturers or Researchers.
The implementation of DAS is supported by a number of lecturers of the Faculty of Agriculture or the University with eight lecturers, seven of whom are professors, assigned definitively in the study program. With a high commitment, the entire academic community is determined to support DAS to become a doctoral study program that is known and recognized internationally.
