Lecturers of the Department of Agricultural Technology, University of Bengkulu (UNIB) encourage the development of processed coffee products based on local potential through community service activities in Bandung Jaya Village, Kabawetan District, Kepahiang Regency. The activity was held on Sunday, July 9, 2026 with the title “Diversification of Herbal Sachet Coffee Products Based on Local Potential”. This activity was carried out through the Partnership Service scheme by involving the Kaba Indah Lestari Women Farmer Group (KWT) as a partner of the activity. The program is part of the university’s efforts to increase the added value of local commodities through the development of innovative products that have market opportunities.

This activity involved four lecturers from the University of Bengkulu, namely Sri Wulandari, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ulfah Anis, S.T.P., M.Sc., Tessa Zulenia Fitri, S.T., M.T., and Vicka Andini, S.Si., M.Sc. Two of them are lecturers of the Department of Agricultural Technology, namely Sri Wulandari, S.T.P., M.Sc. and Ulfah Anis, S.T.P., M.Sc. The involvement of lecturers from these various fields is expected to strengthen assistance to partners in developing herbal coffee products that utilize the potential of local ingredients.

Through this service activity, KWT Kaba Indah Lestari is encouraged not only to rely on the sale of coffee in the form of conventional products, but to start developing diversification into herbal coffee in sachet packaging. This concept is expected to produce products that are more practical, have added value, and provide alternative processed products that can be developed as a group business. The development of products based on local potential is also an opportunity to increase the role of women in productive economic activities at the village level.

In addition to product development, this activity is directed to strengthen the capacity of partners in producing products that are competitive. The partnership service approach is expected to help the group in optimizing the potential of local raw materials while encouraging the development of products that are more ready to be marketed. With the assistance from a team of lecturers at the University of Bengkulu, KWT Kaba Indah Lestari is expected to be able to develop herbal coffee sachet sustainably as one of the superior products based on local potential in Kepahiang Regency.

This activity is one of the tangible forms of the contribution of the Department of Agricultural Technology, University of Bengkulu in supporting the downstream of agricultural products through processing innovations and product diversification. The development of herbal coffee sachet is expected not only to produce new products, but also to open up opportunities to increase income and economic independence of the community. In the future, the synergy between universities and community groups such as KWT Kaba Indah Lestari is expected to continue to be strengthened to encourage the birth of local processed products that have added value and are able to compete in the market.
