
Increasing Food Safety Awareness, UNIB TIP Lecturer Holds Sanitation Education at SMK Dangau Datuk
The Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu carried out community service activities at SMK Agribisnis Dangau Datuk Bengkulu on Saturday, May 23, 2026. This activity raised the theme of Food Processing Sanitation Education which aims to increase students’ understanding of the importance of sanitation, hygiene, and food safety in the process of processing food products.
The service activity was led by Dr. Ir. Yazid Ismi Intara, M.Si. with team members Ir. Hidayat Koto, M.Sc., Ulfah Anis, S.T.P., M.Sc., and Prof. Dr. Ir. Andi Irawan, M.Si.. The activity was attended by students and teachers of SMK Agribusiness Dangau Datuk who enthusiastically participated in the material and discussion sessions.
In the delivery of the material, the service team explained that food processing sanitation is an important aspect in maintaining the quality and safety of food products. The application of good sanitation not only maintains product quality, but can also prevent contamination that is risky to consumer health.
The materials provided include the importance of the cleanliness of production equipment, labor hygiene, sanitation of the processing environment, and the handling of raw materials and food products in accordance with food safety standards. The service team also provided examples of the implementation of simple sanitation that can be done in the school environment and household-scale food businesses.
In addition to the presentation of the material, the activity took place interactively through a question and answer session between participants and resource persons. The students actively asked questions related to safe food processing practices and the application of sanitation in daily production activities.
The head of the service team, Dr. Ir. Yazid Ismi Intara, M.Si., said that this activity is expected to add insight and increase students’ awareness of the importance of sanitation in the food industry. This knowledge is considered important as a provision for vocational school students who will later enter the world of work and entrepreneurship in the food sector.
Through this community service activity, the Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu continues to show its commitment to supporting the improvement of community knowledge and skills, especially in the field of food technology and food safety.
