Increasing the Competitiveness of SMK Dangau Datuk Coffee Products Through Assistance in Standardization of Packaging Labels

Lecturers of the Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu carried out community service activities at SMK Agribisnis Dangau Datuk Bengkulu on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The activity entitled “Increasing the Competitiveness of SMK Dangau Datuk Coffee Products Through Assistance in Standardization of Packaging Labels” was welcomed by the school and students as an effort to improve the quality of coffee products while strengthening the competitiveness of local products in the market.

This service activity was chaired by Firmansyah, S.T., M.Sc. with members Arina Fatharani, S.T.P., M.Sc. and Suhendra, S.T.P., M.Sc. The activity departed from the initial findings that SMK Dangau Datuk’s flagship coffee products, namely Robusta Dangau and Red Pedis Coffee, still did not fully meet food labeling standards in accordance with applicable regulations. Audits of several packaging variants showed that there were still important elements that had not been listed, such as expiration dates, P-IRT distribution license numbers, and product nutritional value information.

Through workshops and direct mentoring, the lecturer team provided an understanding of food labeling regulations in accordance with the provisions of BPOM, SNI Kopi, as well as the procedure for applying for a P-IRT distribution permit through the local Health Office. Participants were also guided in redesigning packaging labels according to standards, ranging from mandatory information completeness to attractive layouts and visual designs. The assistance is focused so that the packaging of coffee products not only meets food safety requirements, but is also able to increase selling value and strengthen product identity.

This activity was attended by 19 participants consisting of academics and accompanying teachers of SMK Dangau Datuk Bengkulu. The atmosphere of the activity took place actively with discussions and hands-on practice regarding packaging design that meets standards. The participants also discussed the potential for the development of local coffee products to be more competitive and ready to be marketed to various segments.

In the long term, this program is expected to open up wider opportunities for commercialization of SMK Dangau Datuk coffee products, both in local markets such as cooperatives, souvenir shops, and school canteens, as well as through digital platforms such as Shopee and Tokopedia that require standardized packaging. In addition, products are also expected to be more ready to be displayed in the exhibition of SMK and MSME products at the regional level.

This service activity is one of the tangible forms of the contribution of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu in supporting the development of local products based on science and technology. Through the synergy between universities and schools, it is hoped that the innovation of superior coffee products of SMK Dangau Datuk Bengkulu can continue to develop and have stronger competitiveness at the local and national levels.
