Community service activity for adding the economic value of cassava

by admin
Cassava is a widely produced crop in Pasar Pedati Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Bengkulu Central Regency. However, selling the product is the most common issue encountered by the growers. At the harvest, farmers only sell whole and raw tubers to collectors, with only a few processing them into simple processed products, such as raw cassava chips and fermented cassava. The limited knowledge and skills of farmers in the diversification of processed products is a major constraint for them to obtain more economic added value from cassava.
This community service carried out by students and lecturers of the Agroecotechnology Masters Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University in November 2021 is aimed at encouraging cassava farmer groups in the area to get out of the old habit of selling raw or semi-finished products. In this activity, farmer groups were introduced and trained to develop various types of processed cassava products and their packaging to attract potential buyers. They are also motivated to develop outlets to market these products as souvenirs. (Admin)
