A team of lecturers from the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University (UNIB), together with students, carried out community service activities by educating and training the community, especially the Women Farmers Group (KWT) Sukasari Village, Air Priukan District, Seluma Regency, utilizing household waste into liquid organic fertilizer.

The team of lecturers involved in the activity, namely Dr. Ir. Musriyadi Nabiu, M.P., as team leader and Lathifah Khairani, S.P., M.Sc. as a member. The activity also involved a student team consisting of Rolinly Wakarandi, Gunawan, and Melysa Nabilasari.

One of the lecturers, Lathifah Khairani, S.P., M.Sc., said that the purpose of the socialization and training activities was to help improve the understanding and skills of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) Sukasari Village regarding the innovation of the Bucket Stacking Composter to make liquid organic fertilizer. Every household, on average, has waste in the form of food scraps, leftover pieces of vegetables, and rotten fruits that are simply thrown into landfills.

This community service activity is a concrete manifestation of implementing the tri dharma of UNIB Agribusiness Study Program lecturers who are trying to implement appropriate technology in the community in the form of training in making liquid organic fertilizers accompanied by 2 simple stacking bucket composter facilities. This training aims to help service partners to make organic fertilizers independently and sustainably.

The Bucket Stack Composter is an innovative tool for processing waste into compost or liquid organic fertilizer using used barrels. The use of these tools is considered to be easily accessible, inexpensive and can be used repeatedly, and environmentally friendly. In addition, the stacked bucket composter produces both liquid and solid organic fertilizer at the same time. The results of liquid organic fertilizer can be used to help plant fertility. At the same time, the solids can be used to make solid compost or bokashi.

The training is carried out by smoothing/chopping organic waste that is too large, then adding the waste that has been mashed rice water, EM4 liquid, and molasses in a ratio of 1:1 and dissolved in water and all put into the composter then Mix and stirring all the ingredients then close the bucket tightly and let stand for 2-3 weeks, and if the liquid looks brown, then liquid fertilizer can be harvested.

The service team hopes that KWT women can use and apply it again. The Bucket Stack Composter provides added value to the agricultural businesses and households of local KWT members. Through this service, the Sukasari Village Women’s Farmer Group expect other similar training that can build the creative power of the community, given their high participation and enthusiasm for the program implemented.
