UNIB Lecturer Teaches Farmers of Air Meles Village to Manage Agricultural Products Into Various Muffin Cake

The University of Bengkulu lecturers held a Tri Dharma College activity in Air Meles Atas Village, Selupu Rejang District, Rejang Lebong. The community service activity (PPM) was carried out directly by 3 UNIB lecturers, Dr. Hesti Pujiwati, S.P., M.Si. as chairman, Ir. Eko Suprijono, M.P., and Ir. Mukhtasar, M.S. was a member and involved a student named Irvan Prayoga. Interestingly, the service activity entitled Vegetable and Fruit-Based Crafts as Supporting Highland Tourism in Air Meles Atas Village, Rejang Lebong Regency, was enthusiastically welcomed by residents who were farmers. Even at the end of the activity, the Head of the Air Meles Atas Village, Syamsul Bahrun, received a certificate from a UNIB lecturer.

The Head of Air Meles Atas Village, Sukadi, said that his party enthusiastically welcomed this service activity and expressed his deepest gratitude to the UNIB service team, who had provided counseling and direct practice of processing vegetables and fruit into various sponge cakes. On the other hand, the Head of PPM Unib, Dr. Hesti Pujiwati, SP. MSi explained that Air Meles Atas Village was chosen as the service location because it is one of the villages in Selupu Rejang District, a center for vegetable and fruit production, and a highland tourist location. “So far, the people of Air Meles Atas Village, especially those who work as farmers, desire to increase their income through processed vegetable and fruit products into various processed products. This is a great potential to be developed so that agricultural production, which originally had less economic value, turned into more economic value and usefulness,” said Dr. Hesti.
One solution can offer processing vegetables and fruit in various high-flavored cakes with high nutritional value, competitive prices, and attractive packaging. “It is hoped that the people of Air Meles Atas Village can increase their income through processed and sustainable products so that people feel passionate about exploring the potential of their area and can improve their standard of living and family income,” he said. The concept of processing agricultural products into various processed products offered to the community in Air Meles Atas Village is the practice of directly processing agricultural products into multiple cakes. Some products that can be made with primary raw materials are bananas, carrots, potatoes, and purple sweet potatoes. Quality products with attractive packaging will add to the selling value offered to consumers or buyers.

Activity Purpose
1) To increase the knowledge of the people of Air Meles Atas Village in processing various processed agricultural products into various processed products with high nutritional value and economic value,

2) To increase the skills of the people of Air Meles Atas Village through appropriate technology in processing agricultural products into a variety of processed sponge products with attractive packaging.

Applied Method
To carry out the service is in the form of counseling/socialization and direct practice. Extension activities or socialization were carried out to the residents of Air Meles Atas Village by explaining the nutritional content of carrots, potatoes, bananas, and purple sweet potatoes as well as explaining the manufacture and use of agricultural products into various cakes. Demonstration or practice in the field directly by showing directly about the processing of agricultural products into various cakes. The residents of Air Meles Atas Village are very enthusiastic about participating in community service activities, both when it comes to socialization and hands-on practice in making various sponge cakes with the main raw materials of agricultural products.
