BENGKULU – The Fisheries Science Study Program (Program Studi Sains Perikanan) at Universitas Bengkulu (UNIB), in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), successfully hosted an international public lecture (Kuliah Umum) aimed at introducing young minds to bright career prospects in the marine and fisheries sectors.

The event, themed “Meniti Karir Gemilang di Dunia Kelautan dan Perikanan” (Forging a Brilliant Career in the World of Marine and Fisheries), took place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Bengkulu. Specially curated for invited senior high school students, the lecture served as an inspiring platform to ignite passion and build awareness regarding the strategic importance and vast professional opportunities available within the blue economy.

The public lecture featured two distinguished keynote speakers who shared global and local insights into marine science, aquaculture technology, and sustainable resource management:

1. Assoc. Prof. Chm. Ts. Dr. Nor Azman Kasan (Deputy Director of the Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries – AKUATROP, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu): Dr. Nor Azman brought valuable international perspectives, highlighting cutting-edge advancements in tropical aquaculture and collaborative academic frameworks bridging Malaysia and Indonesia.

2. Dr. Ali Muqsit, S.Pi., M.Si. (Lecturer and Researcher, Fisheries Science Study Program, Universitas Bengkulu): Dr. Ali focused on the domestic landscape, mapping out the tremendous potential of Indonesia’s fisheries sector and the vital role the younger generation plays in ensuring sustainable ocean management.

Attending students participated in dynamic, interactive discussions, exploring how rapid technological shifts are transforming traditional fisheries into highly sophisticated, technology-driven scientific industries. This event emphasizes the ongoing commitment of Universitas Bengkulu’s Fisheries Science Program to provide impactful community outreach and establish strong academic bridges with top international institutions.
