Turning Palm Waste into Value-Added Products, UNIB TIP Lecturers Provide Briquette Making Training

Lecturer of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, Sri Wulandari, S.TP., M.Sc., became a resource person in the practical activity of processing palm oil waste into briquettes and biochar products which was held on September 15, 2026 at the OMA CASA Bengkulu Hotel.

This activity was organized by the Oil Palm Farmers Association POR Indonesia in collaboration with the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP). The activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of participants in utilizing oil palm biomass waste into products that have added value and have the potential to provide economic benefits.

In this activity, Sri Wulandari delivered a material entitled “Utilization of Biomass Waste for Briquettes”. This material discusses the potential of palm oil waste as an alternative energy raw material through processing into briquettes. The use of biomass is one of the efforts to optimize available resources while reducing waste from oil palm plantation activities.

Not only delivering material in theory, this activity is also equipped with direct practice of making briquettes from palm oil waste. Through this practice, participants gain an understanding of the process of processing biomass into products that can be used as alternative fuels. The theoretical and practical approach is expected to help participants apply the knowledge gained in business activities and waste management in the plantation environment.

The use of palm oil waste into briquettes and biochar is a form of circular economy development in the plantation sector. Biomass waste that has not previously been optimally utilized can be processed into products with use value and has the potential to increase the economic value of local resources. This effort is also in line with the principle of sustainable production through more efficient use of resources.

Sri Wulandari’s involvement as a resource person shows the contribution of lecturers of the Department of Agricultural Technology, University of Bengkulu in disseminating science and technology to the community, especially oil palm farmers. This activity is also a form of applying academic expertise in supporting the development of innovations in the processing of plantation products and the use of biomass waste.

Through these educational and practical activities, it is hoped that the participants can develop skills in processing palm oil waste into useful products, increase the added value of plantation products, and support waste management practices that are more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
