The Forestry Department successfully conducted community service

Today, Saturday, June 29, 2024, the Forestry Department (consisting of the Forestry and Environmental Science Programs) of the University of Bengkulu successfully carried out a Community Service program in Tebat Pulau Village, Rejang Lebong. The event proceeded smoothly and achieved its strategic goals of promoting sustainable villages surrounding forests.

The event encompassed diverse activities, including training sessions and field practices beneficial to the local community. A highlight was the collaborative delivery of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Thematic Maps of the Village between students and the local community. This initiative aimed to enhance understanding of the environmental potentials and challenges around the forest area.

Furthermore, the Head of the Forestry Department led releasing the Strengthening Student Organization Capacity Program (PPK Ormawa) members from Hima Sylva, who completed an intensive series of organizational development sessions. This effort underscores the department’s commitment to nurturing leadership and entrepreneurial potential among its students.

The following are the training sessions conducted during the program:

  1. Honeybee cultivation training to enhance local economic sustainability through natural resource utilization.
  2. Coffee-based soap-making training to diversify products from local materials.
  3. Agroforestry on sloping land training to optimize the use of degraded lands.
  4. Mapping training to strengthen local capacity in participatory natural resource management.
  5. Multi-Purpose Trees (MPTs) grafting training to increase productivity and sustainability of agroforestry.
  6. Liptint is making training as an environmentally friendly beauty product innovation from natural materials.
  7. Ecoenzyme production training to support sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management.

Through these activities, the Community Service Program of the Forestry Department at the University of Bengkulu has successfully delivered significant positive impacts to the local community, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and economic empowerment.
