The Forestry Lecturer was a speaker at the Akar Global Inisiatif event.

The AKAR team said: Some time ago, we were introduced to an exciting idea from @planetindonesia, namely Conservation Community Business Services (PUMK). In general, this PUMK is an idea to prioritize the values of community-based ecosystem care and community rights in the management of natural resources. There are many variables to this PUMK practice; one of the most interesting is the Resilience Fund (DaHan). For us, DaHan is a practice beyond empowerment because it prioritizes the values of collective community capability in ensuring the sustainability of nature and human life itself rather than external modalities. We are interested in adapting these ideas contextually to the location where we work with the community. The entry point for us to grow DaHan is 1) ensuring community rights and access to land or natural resources. 2) collective awareness of society to organize. 3) community innovation and creativity optimize access to sources of livelihood.

Akar Global Inisiatif, which has worked for almost 2 decades with communities, has succeeded and continues to increase legal access for indigenous and local communities to have rights and access to their natural resources. On this occasion, we intend to facilitate the needs of women’s groups of forest edge farmers to improve women’s skills in developing their resilience strategies to face the challenges of climate change and the economic crisis with community enterprise innovation interventions with our female colleagues from the Forestry Department of University of Bengkulu.
