Ecobrick Socialization as a Solution for Plastic Waste Management
On Sunday, October 6 2024, residents of Qoryah Thoyyibah Housing, Kandang Limun took part in a socialization activity entitled “Ecobricks as a Solution for Plastic Waste Management”, which was carried out by lecturers from the Natural Resources Management Study Program, including Dr. Yurike, S.Pt., Prof. Dr. Ir. Urip Santoso, M.Sc., and Dr. Bieng Brata, M.P. This event aimed to educate the community on environmentally friendly plastic waste management using the ecobrick method, while encouraging residents to reduce plastic waste that could otherwise harm the environment.
This activity was part of a community service program where participants were introduced to the concept of ecobricks—a technique to repurpose plastic waste into reusable materials. The collected plastic waste is tightly packed into plastic bottles, which can then be used to create various items, such as chairs, tables, and even simple building structures.
During the event, the facilitators highlighted that plastic waste poses a serious threat to the environment if not properly managed. The ecobrick method was chosen because it is easy, cost-effective, and can be done by anyone without special equipment. The community was encouraged to start sorting and processing their plastic waste so they could directly benefit from a cleaner environment in their neighborhood.
The participants showed great enthusiasm, actively asking questions and trying out the ecobrick method with provided plastic waste. After the socialization, participants are expected to independently create ecobricks at home and adopt a low-waste lifestyle, particularly in managing plastic waste.
Through this socialization event, it is hoped that Qoryah Thoyyibah Housing Complex can serve as an example of a community that cares for the environment and actively contributes to environmental sustainability through simple yet impactful solutions.
