Public Lecture on Animal Husbandry: Training to Face the World of Work and Prepare Animal Husbandry Students to Face the Challenges of the Professional World of Work

The Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu successfully held a Public Lecture and Training to Face the World of Work , which was attended by around 80 students of the 2022 and 2023 batches. The event took place on November 25, 2025 at Building B LPPM UNIB on the 2nd floor of the project aimed to enrich the insight of Animal Husbandry students about the world of work while providing the skills needed by students to enter the world of work. In this Public Lecture, which is also at the same time a training, it also prioritizes the importance of developing soft skills and hard skills that are relevant for careers in the livestock industry and other related agricultural sectors.

This activity was attended by the Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry Dr. Irma Badarina, S.Pt., MP., the Head of the Animal Husbandry Study Program Ir. Edi Soetrisno, M.Sc., the Head of the Animal Feed Nutrition and Technology Study Program Dr, Ir. Nurmeiliasari, M.Sc, and other lecturers of the Department of Animal Husbandry. The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB Prof. Heri Dwi Putranto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D officially opened this Public Lecture and Training. Presenting the single resource person Jusrian Saubara Orpayanda, S.P., M.Sc., who is the CEO of Arconesia. This Public Lecture was themed Climate-Smart Farming in Oil Palm Plantations: Research, Business, and New Employment Opportunities.

Jusrian Saubara Orpayanda, who has extensive experience in the world of agricultural research and business, provided in-depth insights into the challenges and opportunities that exist in the oil palm plantation sector integrated with livestock and how students can contribute to the development of this industry through a climate-friendly approach. Arconesia is a partner of the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB in various activities such as field practice and research of students from Wageningen University, the Netherlands who are currently active in Bengkulu under the supervision of lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB and Arconesia.

“This training is very important for students to prepare themselves with relevant skills in the world of work, such as the ability to adapt to new technologies and an understanding of environmental issues that are increasingly important,” said Prof. Heri Dwi Putranto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., in his speech.

This event ran smoothly and received a positive response from the participants. Students seemed very enthusiastic in participating in the discussion session with the presenters, delving deeper into successful strategies to face the challenges of the ever-evolving world of work. The Governor of BEM Faculty of Agriculture, Azim Ramadhan, also expressed his appreciation for this event, “This event is very interesting and adds new knowledge which is certainly very useful for us as students who are preparing to enter the world of work,” said Azim. With this activity, it is hoped that students of the Animal Husbandry Study Program at the University of Bengkulu can have stronger provisions and are ready to compete in an increasingly competitive job market.
