Marine Science Study Program Faculty of Agriculture UNIB Establishes Cooperation with The Fisheries Office of South Bengkulu Regency

At the beginning of 2023, the Marine Science study program again expanded cooperation with local government offices, the Fisheries Office of South Bengkulu Regency. The Implementation Arrangement was signed in the Faculty of Agriculture Meeting Room, University of Bengkulu (UNIB), on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

The signing of the Implementation Arrangement was carried out directly by the Head of the Fisheries Office of South Bengkulu Regency Santono M.Pd and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwi Wahyuni Ganefianti, M.S. Accompanying the Head of the Fisheries Office, the Head of UPTD BBI South Bengkulu Regency Eker Purwanda, S.Pi, and several staff were present. Then from the internals of the Marine Science Study Program and the Faculty of Agriculture, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Yansen, Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Agustin Zarkani, Head of the Marine Science Study Program Ir. Zamdial M.Si, Head of Fisheries Laboratory Mukti Dono Wilopo, M.Si, Lecturer of the Marine Science study program Ir. Dede Hartono, M.T, Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz, S.Si., M.Sc, and Assistant of Fisheries Laboratory Yenni Putri Sari, S.P., M.Sc were present.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of UNIB welcomed and thanked the Head of the Fisheries Office of South Bengkulu Regency, who was willing to cooperate, synergize and collaborate with the Marine Science Study Program and the Faculty of Agriculture of UNIB to increase contributions in various development sectors at South Bengkulu Regency. “With the initiation of the Marine Science study program, which has started research collaboration between lecturers, students, and the local government of South Bengkulu Regency, of course, this collaboration is very appropriate to be carried out to strengthen strategic and sustainable cooperation in the future,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwi Wahyuni Ganefianti, M.S.

In general, said the Dean, this Implementation Arrangement includes programs relevant to the Tridharma of Higher Education. Still, both parties have drawn up and agreed upon a plan about the scope of cooperation to be implemented.

“Even in this draft Implementation Arrangement, we have also agreed on each activity item’s types of activities and outputs. It is very systematic, and hopefully, this collaboration will positively impact the progress of development in South Bengkulu Regency and benefit the institution,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB.

“We hope today’s cooperation can be immediately followed up through research activities and community service. The allocation of research and community service funds from faculties and study programs can be used in priority locations for developing the fisheries sector in South Bengkulu Regency,” said the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Agriculture. Vice Dean of Student Affairs of the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB also responded, “The implementation of this collaboration is closely related to the role of students as well because student resources can help drive research and community service activities in South Bengkulu Regency through collaboration schemes with lecturers or entrepreneurial activities funded by faculties and universities.”

The scope of the Implementation Arrangement focuses on implementing the tri dharma of higher education in the giant mottled eel cultivation development program. Then, an independent internship (fieldwork practice) for marine science study program students is also planned.

At the research activity, the Agriculture Office of South Bengkulu Regency and the Faculty of Agriculture of UNIB agreed to analyze tilapia fish farming and giant mottled eel polyculture systems as a new technology model in the minapolitan area of South Bengkulu Regency. Then in the exercise of community service, both parties agreed to carry out the theme of Maggot BSF cultivation as a source of protein in giant mottled eel feed in the minapolitan area of South Bengkulu Regency.

The Head of the Fisheries Office of South Bengkulu Regency said he personally and institutionally expressed his gratitude for being well received and the suggestions given. Then, with the large number of qualified human resources and experts in the marine science study program and the Faculty of Agriculture UNIB, he is confident that this collaboration will be carried out positively and adequately impact fisheries’ progress sector development in South Bengkulu Regency.
