Collaboration with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service: Determination of the Kaur Regency as the Regional Marine Conservation Area

Kaur Regency is the southernmost region of Bengkulu province and directly borders Lampung and South Sumatra. The waters extend in the western part of Kaur district which is the Indian Ocean 106.8 km long. The dominant potential marine and fisheries resources in Kaur Adah Regency are capture fisheries and aquaculture. The types of fisheries resources found in Kaur Regency are various small and large pelagic fish, octopus and lobsters associated with coral reefs. Thus, Kaur Regency is included in the Regional Water Conservation Area planning. The lecturer team consisting of Ayub Sugara, Firdha Iresta Wardani and Ana Ariasari, accompanied by people from the Loka PSPL Serang, conducted a field survey to see the condition of the ecosystem on the coast of Kaur Regency. The field survey helped the team to determine the target biota and area of the KKPD that would be launched. The survey results stated that the target biota in the district was octopuses that live on coral reefs. Therefore, the main ecosystem that will be used as a conservation area in Kaur is coral reefs which are the habitat of octopuses.
