Bengkulu, November 2025 — The Marine Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, officially signed an Implementation Agreement (IA) with the Department of Food Security and Fisheries of Central Bengkulu Regency. This signing is a follow-up to the Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat / PkM) activities carried out by lecturers and students of the Marine Science Study Program in Pekik Nyaring Village, Pondok Kelapa District, in mid-October. On this occasion, the Department of Food Security and Fisheries of Central Bengkulu represented the Government of Pekik Nyaring Village in signing the agreement.

The signing of this IA signifies a joint commitment between academia and the local government to support the development of coastal resource potential and to enhance the welfare of village communities. Through this collaboration, the results of the community service projects are expected to be implemented sustainably and bring tangible benefits to the people of Pekik Nyaring, particularly in the fields of marine science, fisheries, and food security.
Previously, the Marine Science Study Program had conducted seven community service activities in Pekik Nyaring Village, each with different themes and approaches according to the expertise of the lecturers involved. These included a fish farming project for village food security led by Maya Angraini Fajar Utami, S.Pi., M.Si.; Azolla (Azolla microphylla) cultivation for fish feed led by Dr. Yar Johan, S.Pi., M.Si.; and community empowerment through digital technology and social media led by Syarifudin Nur, S.Kel., M.Si. In addition, a team led by Dr. Ali Muqsit, S.Kel., M.Si., focused on developing a fisheries profile for Pekik Nyaring Village as a foundation for coastal development programs.
Another project, led by Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz, S.Si., M.Sc., carried out participatory mapping using geospatial information to support the identification of coastal potential areas. Meanwhile, the village’s ecotourism potential was explored through a 4A-based mapping approach (Attraction, Accessibility, Amenity, and Ancillary) led by Nurlaila Ervina Herliany, S.Pi., M.Si. Environmental aspects were also addressed through a project led by Nella Tri Agustini, S.Kel., M.Si., focusing on waste management education for the coastal community.

Through these various initiatives, the Marine Science Study Program of the University of Bengkulu not only plays a role in strengthening community capacity but also fosters cross-sector collaboration between higher education institutions, local government, and village communities. The signing of this Implementation Agreement marks an important step toward a more strategic partnership for the sustainable development of the coastal region of Central Bengkulu.
