
Community Service: Empowering Pokdarwis as a Driving Force for Creative Educational Tourism in Pondok Besi Village
Pondok Besi, May 28, 2025 — A community service event themed “Empowering Pokdarwis as a Driving Force for Creative Educational Tourism in Pondok Besi Village” was successfully held in Pondok Besi Village. The program focused on strengthening the role of Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group) as key agents in local tourism development, particularly through creative edu-tourism and waste-based tourism initiatives.
The initiative aimed to raise community awareness about the strategic importance of Pokdarwis in fostering sustainable and community-based tourism. Participants were introduced to the practical concepts and models of edu-tourism that combined educational experiences with creative utilization of waste materials, transforming environmental challenges into tourism opportunities.
Edu-tourism was presented as an approach that was not only entertaining but also educational, especially targeting students and youth groups, by highlighting local culture, natural heritage, and environmental issues.
In addition to these efforts, the event also highlighted Pondok Besi’s coastal tourism potential. The village has a beauty that offers unique opportunities for marine-based educational tourism, such as beach clean-up programs, coastal conservation activities, and eco-friendly tourism experiences. These natural coastal assets are seen as essential components in promoting sustainable tourism, and Pokdarwis is expected to play a central role in managing and developing them responsibly. The event emphasized the important role of Pokdarwis as a leaders in promoting tourism innovation in the village.
