Introduction of Portable Fish Aggregating Devices for Small-Scale Fishers in Kahyapu Village
The village development program is an annual activity conducted by the Department of Marine Science at the University of Bengkulu, located in Enggano Island, North Bengkulu Regency. As part of the village development program, the Department of Marine Science focuses on enhancing the capacity of small-scale fishers in Kahyapu Village through a socialization campaign introducing a tool known as the portable fish aggregating device (FAD). The activity took place on May 30, 2023, at the Village Hall of Kahyapu, attended by village officials and fisher groups residing in Kahyapu Village.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ali Muqsit, S.Kel., M.Si., and accompanied by Dr. Ir. Deddy Bakhtiar, M.Si., Ir. Zamdial, M.Si., and Ir. Dede Hartono, M.Si., the event proceeded smoothly. The enthusiasm of the small-scale fishers from Kahyapu Village was evident throughout the activity, with active participation in the question-and-answer session and a strong desire to directly experience the portable FAD. We hope that through this socialization campaign and the introduction of the portable FAD as a technology transfer, we can contribute to the improvement of the fishing community’s capacity in Kahyapu Village, Enggano.
