MANGROVE SEEDING TRAINING FOR COMMUNITY GROUP KAHYAPU VILLAGE, ENGGANO ISLAND

Community Service Team of Marine Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, chaired by Mukti Dono Wilopo, S.Pi., M.Si with members Nella Tri Agustini, S.Kel., M.Si, Dr. Yar Johan, S.Pi., M.Sc, Maya Angraini, S.Pi., M.Si conducted mangrove nursery training for the Kahyapu Village community group, Enggano Island on Monday, May 29, 2023. This activity was held at the Kahyapu Village Hall on Enggano Island. It was opened directly by the head of the dedicated team, the Chair of the Fisheries Laboratory of Bengkulu University.

In this activity which the people of Kahyapu Village also attended, education was presented regarding the role and function of mangroves and the techniques for mangrove nurseries. The function of mangroves, apart from being one of the plants with the most significant oxygen contributor, have also functioned as a deterrent to coastal abrasion and erosion. It should also be noted that mangrove forests are a breeding ground for brackish animals such as crabs and fish. Therefore, the mangrove ecosystem is vital to maintain and preserve. The next activity was the mangrove nurseries carried out by the team and community groups in the field directly. The activity, which was carried out for one day, is expected to increase public awareness of the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem.
