
Implementation Arrangement Signed to Foster Collaborative Initiatives between Enggano District and Bengkulu University’s Marine Science Study Program

Bengkulu University’s Study Program of Marine Science, in collaboration with the Enggano sub-district administration, held a significant event on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 15:30. The event took place at the Marine Science Study Program and marked the official signing of the Implementation Arrangement (IA) by Mr. Susanto, MD., S.Pd., the district head of Enggano. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Suharyanto, SPt., M.Si., the head of the Animal Science department, Ir. Zamdial, M.Si., the head of the Marine Science program, and Mukti Dono Wilopo, S.Pi., M.Si., the head of the Fisheries laboratory.
The IA document outlines the rights and responsibilities of the academic community of the Marine Science program towards the Enggano District community, which serves as the target audience for the various initiatives. The document was thoroughly reviewed, authorized, and signed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwi Wahyuni Ganefianti, MS the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University, and Mr. Susanto, the district head of Enggano.
In 2023, the Marine Science program at Bengkulu University is set to carry out ten community empowerment activities, consisting of six community service projects and four village development (bina desa) projects, all of which will be conducted in Kahyapu Village, Enggano District. The signing of the IA involved ten separate documents, corresponding to the number of community engagement activities planned in Kahyapu Village, Enggano District.
The list of community service and village development activities conducted by the Marine Science program at Bengkulu University includes:
- Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Public Facilities and Residential Area Inventory to Enhance Informative Village Profiles in Kahyapu Village. (Coordinator: Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz, S.Si., M.Sc)
- Socialization of Portable Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) for Small-Scale Fishermen in Kahyapu Village. (Coordinator: Dr. Ali Muqsit, S.kel., M.Si)
- Promoting Fish Nutrition among Adolescents in Kahyapu Village to Support the National Program “Gemar Makan Ikan” (Love Fish, Eat Fish). (Coordinator: Nur Lina Maratana Nabiu, S.Pi., M.Si)
- Training on Mangrove Propagation for Community Groups in Kahyapu Village, Enggano Island. (Coordinator: Mukti Dono Wilopo, S.Pi., M.Si)
- Participatory Mapping based on Geospatial Information to Support Tourism Development in Kahyapu Village, Enggano Island. Coordinated by Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz, S.Si., Dr. Yar Johan, S.Pi, M.Si, M.Sc, Ari Anggoro, S.Pi., M.Si.
- Enhancing the Promotion of Marine Tourism in Pokdarwis Podipo, Kahyapu Village, to Improve the Local Economy. Coordinated by Ana Ariasari, S.Pi., M.Sc, and Mukti Dono Wilopo, S.Pi., M.Si.

The signing of the IA document is expected to serve as a strong commitment and evidence of the initial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Bengkulu University and the North Bengkulu Regency Government. It signifies the implementation of collaborative activities within the Enggano District, particularly in Kahyapu Village, involving the Marine Science program as part of Bengkulu University. The IA signing is anticipated to pave the way for future collaborations encompassing not only community engagement but also research and educational activities, fostering a partnership between faculty, students, and the Enggano District community. The ultimate goal is to achieve productive and sustainable marine and fisheries management, with a strong emphasis on environmental conservation.
