COMMUNITY SERVICE: UTILIZATION OF CLAMSHELL WASTE AS AN EFFORT FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC IMPROVEMENT IN KAHYAPU VILLAGE, ENGGANO ISLAND
Enggano Island is the outermost island of Indonesia which is included in North Bengkulu district, which consists of 6 villages, namely Banjar Sari Village, Meok Village, Apoho Village, Malakoni Village, Kaana Village and Kahyapu Village. Enggano Island can be accessed by sea transportation. Local fishing boats can be an alternative crossing at certain times. Beach characteristics on Enggano Island are divided into 5 groups, namely: muddy sand, sand, coral sand, muddy coral sand and rocky coral beaches. The characteristic of Enggano Island was causing a connection between coral reef and mangrove ecosystems. Muddy sand is found in Kahyapu Village, Tanjung Harapan and the mouth of the Banjar Sari river to Berhau Bay. Enggano District (one of which is Kahyapu Village) is categorized as a disadvantaged district with the majority of people working in the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors. Famous commodities are kapok, emping and melinjo. Enggano Island has important resource potential, including mangrove forest ecosystems, seagrass beds, coral reef ecosystems, estuary ecosystems and fish resources.
The clam shell is the body part of the clam. The potential for clamshell waste has a big opportunity to improve the economy of coastal communities, one of which is making brooches from shells, brooches from shells can beautify the appearance of being pinned to clothes or headscarves. Brooch products are able to increase their appeal to the public by utilizing clamshell waste.

With this potential, Students and Lecturers team from the Marine Science study program, Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University carried out community service activities in Kahyapu Village, Enggano Islands, North Bengkulu. Community service activities are carried out through training and simulations on the use of clamshell waste to be used to make brooches and wall decorations that can have economic value. Activities began with a survey of stakeholders, activity preparation, outreach, training and simulation and evaluation of the activities carried out. Community service activities were carried out with housewives in Kahyapu Village, Enggano Island. It is hoped that community service activities can improve the skills of housewives so they can increase their economic income by staying at home.
