Practitioner Lecture: Fishery Biology Application for Endangered Marine Biota Conservation
Marine Science study program students attend the Practitioner Lecture Series regarding Fishery Biology Application for Endangered Marine Biota Conservation. This valuable speech was given by Agus Arifin Sentosa, S.Pi., M.Pi., a civil servant at the Ministry of Marine and Fishery Affairs, using the online Zoom platform on 7 November 2023. He explained the importance of fishery biology science in the application of further marine biota conservation, especially for endangered marine species. The scope of fishery biology science that will address fishery resources management includes life history, reproduction cycle, food habits, fish behavior, fish population, fish stock, and fishery resources management. Students can learn about fish’s early life history, gonad maturity level, fish sexuality, gonadosomatic index, fish fecundity, fish spawning, food and feeding habits, prey and predator, fish behavior, fish growth and age, and fish stock.

This biological information will optimize marine biota conservation, including protecting endangered habitats and ecosystems and genetic and species conservation. In this lecture, students also learn about the endangered marine species, so they can observe the biological information regarding the fishery biological data to sustain the endangered marine species. The speaker also encouraged students to learn and explore the biological fishery data in various student activities such as research, field surveys, writing a scientific article, and research collaboration between lecturer and students. This lecture session is closed by taking photos together via zoom.
