Students of the Marine Science Study Program, at Bengkulu University visited Tahura Ngurah Rai Bali

Tahura Ngurah Rai Bali is a technical implementation unit under the Bali Provincial Forestry Service which is located in the Sanur area, Bali. This area is managed by the Denpasar city government through UPTD Ngurah Rai. Some of the main tasks carried out by UPTD Tahura Ngurah Rai Bali include planning area development, carrying out forest maintenance, and providing natural tourism facilities. This UPTD also carries out typical Tahura plant nurseries, and environmental education, and facilitates visits for tourists.

On December 7 2023, students of Bengkulu University Marine Science Study Program who were also accompanied by several lecturers visited UPTD Tahura Ngurah Rai, Bali. This visit aims to observe the management of the mangrove ecosystem in the Tahura area. During the visit, students were given education in the form of explanations and discussions regarding efforts to preserve mangrove forests and the fauna in them. This activity can broaden students’ insight regarding coastal ecosystem management and a real picture of mangrove forest management in Bali.

This visit allowed students to learn about the initiatives that have been carried out by UPTD Tahura Ngurah Rai in managing and preserving protected forests. Through dialogue and discussions with conservation officers, students can understand the active role of society and government in preserving natural resources, as well as the contribution of marine science in supporting these efforts. Hopefully, this experience can provide positive encouragement for Bengkulu University Marine Science students to be more actively involved in environmental conservation efforts in the future.
