Minutes of the Closing Ceremony for the PPK ORMAWA HIMAILKA Team, University of Bengkulu 2024
Bengkulu, November 29, 2024
The University of Bengkulu continues demonstrating its active contribution to community empowerment through the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK ORMAWA). One of this year’s successful programs was organized by the Marine Science Student Association (HIMAILKA) of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, under the theme “Optimizing the Eco-Tourism Potential of Kebun Keling Village through Empowerment Activities to Enhance the Socio-Economic Resilience of Coastal Communities.”
The closing ceremony for the PPK ORMAWA HIMAILKA 2024 team took place on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Kebun Keling Village Office. Various stakeholders attended the event, including Kebun Keling government officials, community leaders, the local women’s organization (PKK), and local community members.
This program focused on empowering coastal communities in Kebun Keling Village, particularly in environmental literacy, the development of processed fishery products, and the optimization of eco-tourism potential centered on sea turtles and coral reefs. HIMAILKA implemented three main work programs:
- Mini Library, aimed at improving children’s literacy on environmental conservation topics.
- Fish Smoking Training for homemakers and MSMEs to produce value-added products.
- Eco-tourism management and promotion, leveraging social media to utilize the village’s potential fully.
The success of this program was marked by the establishment of three fish-smoking MSME groups, which are now capable of producing ready-to-sell products with proper packaging and marketing strategies. These products have the potential to enter broader markets beyond Kebun Keling Village.
In his speech, HIMAILKA Team Leader Fadhila Muharam thanked all parties who supported the program. Meanwhile, the Head of Kebun Keling Village expressed appreciation for the hard work of HIMAILKA students, who have made tangible contributions to the village’s development. Academic advisor Mr. Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz conducted the symbolic handover of the HIMAILKA team to the Kebun Keling Village authorities.
The event concluded with a prayer led by Fadhila Muharam and the handover of program equipment donations to the village representatives. A group photo session marked the end of this meaningful and grateful occasion.
Through the PPK ORMAWA HIMAILKA 2024 program, it is hoped that the achievements will continue to create positive and tangible impacts on coastal communities’ social, economic, and educational aspects. This program also proves that students are strategically involved in innovation and community empowerment tailored to local needs.
