Pekik Nyaring Village, October 15, 2025
A team of lecturers from the Marine Science Study Program, University of Bengkulu, conducted a Community Service Program (Pengmas) with a project titled “Empowering the Community Through Digital Technology and Social Media in Pekik Nyaring Village, Central Bengkulu Regency.”
The activity, held on Wednesday, 15 October, 2025, reflects the university’s commitment to supporting coastal communities through technology-based capacity development.

The community service team consisted of Syarifudin Nur, S.Si., M.Si, Mukti Dono Wilopo, S.Si., M.Si, and Dr. Eko Nofriansyah, S.Pi., M.Sc. Together, they introduced the importance of digital literacy and the effective use of social media as tools for promotion, education, and economic empowerment within coastal communities.

According to Syarif, the program focused on improving digital awareness among local residents, enabling them to utilize social media to promote local potential such as fishery products, tourism, and small enterprises.
“By understanding how digital platforms work, the community can expand their promotional reach independently, without relying on external parties. This is essential for building economic self-reliance in coastal areas,” he explained.
In addition to lectures and discussions, the program also included hands-on training on digital marketing strategies, creative content development, and online data management. The Karang Taruna and Pokdarwis of Pekik Nyaring Village showed great enthusiasm, particularly small business owners and the younger generation.
Dr. Eko Nofriansyah emphasized that this activity is part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly the community service aspect.

“We hope this kind of program will continue to grow in the future, not only by providing knowledge but also by offering ongoing assistance so that the community can truly apply digital technology in their daily lives,” he said.
Through this initiative, the Marine Science Study Program, University of Bengkulu, reaffirms its dedication to fostering a technologically adaptive and resilient coastal society. It is expected that Pekik Nyaring Village will one day serve as a model for a digitally empowered community in Central Bengkulu.
