Marine Science Student Wins First Place in Faculty-Level Thesis Competition at the University of Bengkulu

Bengkulu, Wednesday, 3 December 2025 — The Marine Science Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, proudly celebrates another outstanding achievement. Syafa Aisya Putri, a Marine Science student, has successfully won First Place in the Faculty Thesis Competition held on 30 November 2025 at the Faculty of Agriculture Dean’s Building.

A distinguished panel of judges assessed the competition: Prof. Dr. Ir. Atra Romeida, M.Si, Prof. Dr. Ir. Priyatiningsih, M.Sc, and Dr. Nurmeiliasari, S.Pt., M.Sc.Ag. The event featured a series of excellent research presentations from various study programs across the faculty.

Innovative Mangrove Mapping Research Led Syafa to Victory

Syafa impressed the judges with her thesis entitled:
“Spatial Distribution Mapping of Mangroves Using Sentinel-2A Satellite Imagery with Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) in Jenggalu Estuary, Bengkulu City.”

Her research stood out for its strong integration of remote sensing technology with coastal ecological studies, offering valuable insights into mangrove distribution and supporting sustainable management efforts in Bengkulu City.

Syafa was supervised by Ir. Zamdial, M.Si, as the principal advisor and Ayub Sugara, S.Kel., M.Si as the co-advisor.

Beyond her academic achievements, Syafa is also recognized as an SDGs Campus Ambassador for UNIB, actively promoting sustainability initiatives within the university community.

Winner Announced During the Faculty Graduation Ceremony

The announcement of Syafa’s victory took place during the Faculty of Agriculture Yudisium Ceremony on Wednesday, 3 December 2025. During the event, she was given the special opportunity to present her research findings before the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, the vice deans, program heads, and other academic officials. This moment served as an additional recognition of her dedication, hard work, and excellence in research and scientific contribution.

Looking Ahead, The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture expressed appreciation for Syafa’s accomplishment and encouraged other students to continue producing innovative research, especially in the fields of marine science and environmental sustainability.
