
ENGGANO EXPEDITION IN 2024
After a hiatus of 2 years due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic followed by post-pandemic conditions, the flagship activity of the Marine Science Study Program of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, the Enggano Expedition, is set to resume from May 10th to May 15th, 2024. A total of 150 students from the Marine Science Study Program, spanning three cohorts, accompanied by faculty members, are preparing to depart for Enggano Island aboard a Ferry from Pulau Baai port on Friday, May 10th, 2024, in the evening. In the morning, the expedition participants gathered for a farewell ceremony in the courtyard of the Agricultural Laboratory Building of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu.
Representating the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Heri Dwi Putranto, PhD, and the Head of the Marine Science Study Program, Ir. Zamdial, M.Sc., and the Head of the Fisheries Laboratory, Mukti Wilopo, S.Pi., M.Sc., officially bid farewell to the expedition participants. In his address, Professor Heri expressed his hope that the expedition would proceed according to plan and that its objectives would be achieved. The expedition is also accompanied by Community Service activities conducted by faculty members of the Marine Science Study Program, funded by the UNIB Faculty of Agriculture’s Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) for the year 2024, as well as Village Development activities in two villages on Enggano Island.
During the farewell ceremony, the student participants were seen brimming with excitement as they enthusiastically followed the proceedings. Several faculty members were also observed eager to embark on the expedition. This enthusiasm stems not only from the anticipation of returning to the Marine Science Study Program’s field laboratory on Enggano Island after a wait of over two years but also from the academic activities planned, including field practicum sessions for several courses.
