Bengkulu, September 18, 2024 – The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu successfully held an international seminar entitled The 4th ISEPROLOCAL 2024 with the theme “Synergy to Strengthen National Food Security”. The event, which took place on September 18, 2024, was held in a hybrid manner, inviting experts and practitioners from various countries to share knowledge and strategies related to sustainable agriculture and local resource development. At the opening ceremony, the dean of the faculty of agriculture, Dr Indra Cahyadinata, delivered his remarks, followed by remarks from the vice-rector for academic affairs (Prof. M. Lutfi Firdaus), who also opened the event.

The seminar featured several prominent speakers, including representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia and the TNI Commander, who both provided strategic insights on the agricultural sector’s important role in maintaining national food security amidst global challenges. Dr. Ir. Audy Joinaldy, S.Pt., M.Sc., MM, IPM., ASEAN Eng., as the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Animal Science Association, also delivered critical thoughts on innovation in animal science.

In the primary session, international keynote speakers such as Dr Mulyoto Pangestu from Monash University, Australia; Dr Maja Slingerland from Wageningen University, Netherlands; and Prof. Dr Yap Chee Kong from Universiti Putra Malaysia discussed innovative approaches to agricultural resource management, adaptation to climate change, and the use of technology in modern agriculture. Prof Zainal Muktamar from the University of Bengkulu and Prof. Mehmet Bora Kaydan from Cukurova University, Turkey, also added local and global perspectives on sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Nurmeiliasari (chairman of the committee) said that this seminar not only invited academics and practitioners from all over the world but also students and agricultural industry players who were interested in developing innovations based on local resources. With a scope of topics covering pest and plant disease management, fisheries and marine management, and biodiversity conservation, this seminar successfully became an essential forum for multidisciplinary collaboration to strengthen food security in Indonesia. With more than 200 participants attending the event in person and online, ISEPROLOCAL 2024 proved its success.

This seminar is expected to encourage more collaboration and innovation in the agricultural sector, as well as strengthen Indonesia’s efforts to achieve national food security amidst the challenges of climate change and globalization.

In addition to presenting a number of keynote speakers from various countries, The 4th ISEPROLOCAL 2024 was also filled with oral presentation sessions from researchers, academics, and practitioners in the fields of agriculture and local resource development. Seminar participants enthusiastically presented the results of their research and innovations according to the scopes set by the committee.

The oral presentation themes included Plant Pest and Disease Management, Fisheries, Marine and Aquatic Resource Management, Sustainable Agricultural Production and Food Technology, Biodiversity and Natural Resource Conservation, Food Science and Food Safety, Sustainable Agricultural Technology and Knowledge, Natural Resource and Environmental Management, Traditional Knowledge, and Community-Based Agriculture.

The oral presentation session created an interactive discussion atmosphere, where seminar participants from various parts of the world shared their knowledge and experiences in facing the challenges of the agricultural sector. Many of them received positive feedback and established networks for future research and development.

With the active participation of more than 100 speakers, the oral presentation session became one of the main pillars of ISEPROLOCAL 2024’s success. Each speaker made a significant contribution to answering the problems of food security and sustainable agriculture, in line with this seminar’s main objective, namely strengthening national food security amidst global challenges.

The results of this seminar will be helpful not only in the academic realm but can also be implemented directly by practitioners in the field to encourage the progress of the Indonesian and global agricultural sectors jointly.
