Lecturers of the Marine Science Study Program join the training of writing research-based textbooks by LPPM UNIB
The training of research-based textbook writing was organized by LPPM UNIB on October 25, 2022, at 08.00-13.00 WIB in the hall room on the 2nd Floor of LPPM UNIB with speakers Dr. Yunus Abidin (Indonesian University of Education) and Prof. Dr. Eng. Wisnu Jatmiko (University of Indonesia).
The training activity was attended by lecturers at the University of Bengkulu who represented their respective faculties, with the number of participants reaching 70 people. On this occasion, the marine science study program lecturers who were also present were Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz, Ana Ariasari, Nella Tri Agustini, Firda Iresta Wardani, Nur Lina Maratana Nabiu, and Annisa Nurul Suci.
The purpose of the training is to provide insight to lecturers about utilizing research results to be textbooks. The training activity presents resource persons who have experience making textbooks based on research results.
Dr. Yunus Abidin, the first speaker, said that the primary key to writing a book is to dare to start. Meanwhile, the strategy for lecturers is to write according to the field of knowledge mastered and in demand. Moreover, lecturers can write books using existing documents, for example, semester learning plans, as the base material for making a textbook. On the other hand, book writing can be done by lecturers in collaboration both with colleagues and with students. Finally, the writing needs to be published, so the role of the publisher is also essential in disseminating the results of our writing.
The second resource person was Prof. Dr. Eng. Wisnu Jatmiko, who emphasized writing research-based textbooks. Prof. Wisnu’s presentation began with his profile as a researcher with more than 180 internationally published research. He said that to produce a robust research atmosphere, it must also be supported by solid learning. Textbooks are one way to strengthen learning. In addition, several strategies in compiling textbooks include collaborating, being productive in conducting research, and needing to pay attention to research report language if it is to be used as material for writing textbooks.
The training continued with a discussion session from participants’ questions about tips and tricks for writing research-based textbooks, finding the right publisher, and differences in textbooks, monographs, and reference books. The training is closed after the discussion session, and LPPM UNIB hopes the training could benefit the participants who attend, especially in fostering interest and motivation in writing books.
