Community Service: Bioflocs Technology for Catfish Farming

The community service activity entitled application of catfish cultivation bioflocs technologist for using yard land in Sungai Hitam, Bengkulu city was held by the Marine Science study program on Wednesday, November 9,  2022, at the IKS meeting room of Sungai Hitam. The main speakers were Maya Anggraini Fajar Utama, S.Pi., M.Si, and members Mukti Dono Wilopo, S.Pi., M.Si, Nurlaila Ervina Herliany, S.Pi., M.Si, and Akbar Abdurrahman Mahfudz, S.Si., M.Sc.

The community service activity began with a presentation from Maya Anggraini Fajar Utama, S.Pi., M.Si, related to bioflocs technology for catfish farming. The presentation discussed the meaning of bioflocs technology and its use for catfish farming. The advantages and advantages of bioflocs technology are higher productivity than conventional technology, and other advantages are land-saving and water-saving. Biofloc technology has easy maintenance and can save feed through microbial management during the maintenance period. The presentation by the speaker also explained the comparison of the economic value of catfish farming between bioflocs technology and conventional technology.

The presentation by the speakers was followed by discussion and question and answer. The topic of discussion was the practice of utilizing bioflocs technology, which the speakers had presented. The resource persons and the team will provide direct exposure and assistance with tools, installations, seeds, and feed to start the application of bioflocs technology. This assistance is specific to residents chosen deliberatively as a pilot project in Sungai Hitam village. It is expected to motivate other residents to apply biofloc technology to catfish farming.
