Community Service and Empowerment (PPM) Enggano Island: Socialization of Turtle Conservation Based on Education at SMAN 6 Enggano Island, North Bengkulu Regency

On Monday (September 17, 2024), a number of lecturers from the Marine Science Study Program at the University of Bengkulu conducted a community service activity at SMAN 6 Enggano Island regarding the Socialization of Turtle Conservation Based on Education at SMAN 6 Enggano Island, North Bengkulu Regency. This activity involved three lecturers from the Marine Science Study Program at UNIB: Dewi Purnama, S.Pi., M.Si., as the team leader, along with members Dr. Yar Johan Hayat, S.Pi., M.Si., and Maya Angraini, S.Pi., M.Si.

The team leader, Dewi Purnama, S.Pi., M.Si., stated that this activity is one of the efforts to conserve turtles through education-based awareness, aiming to preserve turtle populations by educating the younger generation so that a sense of concern and love for turtles is instilled continuously for future generations.

The students of SMAN 6 Enggano Island were very enthusiastic and active during the community service activity. This was evident during the discussion session, where many questions were asked by the students regarding turtle conservation and their habitat.

The importance of education in turtle conservation socialization is one of the efforts to support sustainable turtle conservation management. It is hoped that the students will become more knowledgeable, caring, and committed to preserving turtles and their habitats.
