The compilation of the Village Fisheries Profile Book in supporting sustainable fisheries

The Marine Science and Fisheries Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, conducted a community service activity on October 15, 2025, at the Pekik Nyaring Village Hall in Pondok Kelapa District. This activity focuses on optimizing the fishery potential of Pekik Nyaring Village by creating a fisheries profile book.

The service team consisted of lecturers from the marine science and the fisheries science study program, consisting of: Dr. Ali Muqsit, S.Kel., M.Si., Silvi Syukhriani, S.Kel., M.Si., Anggini Fuji Astuti, S.Si., M.Si. The main purpose of this activity is to help fishermen, especially those in Pekik Nyaring Village, compile a fisheries sector profile book as a reference and guideline for the village government in realizing sustainable fisheries.

During the activity, the participants, a group of fishermen from Pekik Nyaring village, were very enthusiastic in contributing basic information. The activity also deepened understanding of fish types, catch production, fishing seasons, and other topics listed in the questionnaire. The questionnaire results will later be collected and used as basic data for preparing the fisheries profile book.

In addition to discussions, the team also conducted participatory mapping to obtain the location of fishing areas from fishermen in Pekik Singing, with this participatory approach fishermen became more active and open in providing detailed information in fishing operation activities. This community service activity is expected to be one of the bases in making the fisheries sector of Pekik Loud Village in Central Bengkulu more optimal, and at the same time, as a guideline for the local government in regulating and formulating policies.
