INITIAL STEPS TOWARD A CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR THE MARINE SCIENCE STUDY PROGRAM

Bengkulu, July 21, 2024. The Marine Science Study Program at FP Unib (Prodi IKL FP Unib) aims to become a leading force in the fields of fisheries and marine science in Indonesia. This goal is pursued diligently by the faculty members of Prodi IKL FP Unib, one of which is planning to establish the Prodi IKL as a Center of Excellence for eel (Anguilla sp) aquaculture. Researcher Ir has initiated this aspiration. Dede Hartono, MT, and his team. It is well-known that eels are abundant in Bengkulu Province, particularly in Kaur Regency, and the Japanese market highly favors them. To meet its domestic demand, Japan must import eels from countries like China and Indonesia.

Given this promising market potential, Japanese investors have specifically visited FP Unib to explore collaboration opportunities in eel aquaculture development. The investment development team from AAI (Asia Africa Research Consulting and Investment) Co. Ltd (Holding Company of the A-Wing group), represented by Mr. Hirohide Nakamura and Mr. Toshihiro Nakamura, President Director of PT Singgasana Unagi Indonesia, visited FP Unib on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The Japanese delegation was warmly received by the Dean of FP Unib, Dr. Indra Cahyadinata, S.P., M.Si., accompanied by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Heri Dwi Putranto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., along with several lecturers and researchers including Dr. Ir. Musriyadi Nabiu, MP., Ir. Dede Hartono, MT, and Nurlina Maratana Nabiu, S.Si., M.Si. To solidify the plans for IKL FP Unib as a future eel development center, the IKL FP Unib team has been conducting ongoing research on eels. The research team from IKL FP Unib has also partnered with the Regional Government of Kaur Regency through the Kosabangsa Community Service Program to develop Kaur Regency as an eel aquaculture center in Bengkulu.
