The Marine Science Diving Club (MSDC) of Bengkulu University carried out an underwater flag-raising activity

On August 17, 2024, in order to commemorate the 79th Indonesian Independence Day, the Marine Science Diving Club (MSDC) of Bengkulu University carried out an underwater flag-raising activity that took place on Tikus Island, one of the marine tourism icons in Bengkulu. This activity was held in collaboration with the Bengkulu City BASARNAS team, who participated in this noble mission with 22 participants consisting of 12 BASARNAS members and 10 MSDC members.

The flag-raising event began at 09.52 WIB when the participants began diving from the boat towards the flag-raising location at a depth of around ±13 meters below sea level. With a high spirit of togetherness, the divers from both teams managed to plant the red and white flag, which fluttered proudly underwater. This flag-raising ceremony took place solemnly amidst the silence of the underwater, which shows the beauty of the coral reefs and marine biodiversity of Tikus Island.

The flag-raising procession lasted ±26 minutes and ended at 10:26 WIB. This moment symbolizes respect for the heroes who fought for Indonesia’s independence and shows the dedication of the divers to preserving the sea and the importance of preserving the marine environment.

This activity is also tangible evidence of the collaboration between MSDC and BASARNAS in succeeding in a meaningful national mission, where togetherness, skills, and patriotism are the primary keys to the success of this event. With the end of this flag-raising ceremony, more young generations will be inspired to participate in protecting and preserving Indonesia’s marine wealth.
