HIMA SYLVA PCSI UNIB Strengthens Concrete Environmental Protection Actions Through the National Movement “Young Action to Protect the Climate” in Bengkulu
HIMA SYLVA SIPC UNIB shows its concern and a strong commitment to environmental issues by collaborating with the national movement “Young Action to Protect the Climate.” This movement, which took place in more than 1,285 points simultaneously throughout Indonesia, is one of the major efforts involving young people in maintaining the earth’s sustainability. In Bengkulu City, Hima Sylva PCSI UNIB successfully held activities at 11 strategic points, with various real actions.
“Young Action to Protect the Climate” by Hima Sylva PCSI UNIB consists of four main actions: tree planting, cleaning up garbage, cleaning nails on trees, and environmental camping. The activities involving more than 190 young people focus on direct action towards the environment and educate the wider community about the importance of preserving nature. In garbage cleaning, 400 kg of garbage, consisting of plastic, metal, textile, and other waste, was collected. In the nail removal process, they managed to clean the trees using campaign props and marketing tools from business people who did not care about the condition of the trees. They also collected 50 kg of garbage, including plastic waste and nails. In the tree planting process, they managed to plant 500 trees consisting of mangrove trees, sea pine, Ketapang, and red shoots. Then, in the environmental camp, this activity included an FGD with the Environmental Education for the Young Generation theme, a documentary film screening, and an art stage.
Hima Sylva PCSI UNIB believes that collaboration from various parties is needed to create significant changes to preserve the environment. Through this movement, the younger generation can become the driving force in environmental campaigns by focusing on real action, which can have a big impact on the earth’s sustainability in the future.
This activity also reflects the active role of Hima Sylva PCSI UNIB as a forum for students who care about climate change issues and are determined to continue contributing to environmental preservation and build awareness that small, sustainable actions can create big changes. Hima Sylva PCSI UNIB invites all elements of society, especially the younger generation, to jointly take the right steps to create a healthier and more sustainable earth for future generations.
