Marine Science Study Program Releases Class of 2021 Students for Field Trip

Bengkulu, 15 November 2024 – The Department of Marine Science, Universitas Bengkulu, today held a release ceremony for 60 students from the class of 2021 who will take part in Field Trip 2024. The field trip will take place from 15 to 22 November 2024 and aims to improve students’ practical understanding through direct visits to various research centers and marine ecosystem areas in Indonesia.

The release ceremony was held on the campus of Bengkulu University. It was attended by Vice Dean 3 of the Faculty of Agriculture for Student Affairs, Mrs. Dr. Hesti Pujiwati, S.P., M.Si., who delivered remarks and motivation to the participants. She hoped that students could use this field experience to deepen their understanding of marine science.

This field trip was also accompanied by five lecturers: Ir. Zamdial, M.Si.; Dr. Yar Johan, S.Pi, M.Si.; An Nisa Nurul Suci, S.Si., M.Si.; Nella Tri Agustini, S.Kel., M.Si.; and Yenni Putri Sari, S.Pi., M.Sc., who provided academic direction during the activity. The lecturers’ presence is expected to help students understand various technical and scientific aspects during field activities.

During the field trip, the group will visit BRIN’s Oceanographic Research Centre in North Jakarta to gain an in-depth insight into the latest oceanographic research. Afterward, the visit continues to the Indonesian Navy’s Centre for Hydro-Oceanography (Pushidrosal), also in North Jakarta, to learn about Pushidrosal’s role in mapping and understanding hydro-oceanography as an important part of Indonesia’s marine defense and security.

In addition, students will also explore the Seribu Islands, where they will learn first-hand about marine ecosystems and the challenges of marine resource management in the archipelago.

This field trip is expected to enrich students’ knowledge and prepare them to become competent graduates in the marine field. The activity will conclude with an evaluation and reflection session before the participants return to Bengkulu on 22 November 2024.
